Our Future is on the table

EDD15 is launching a Youth Photo Contest on the relationship between food, and sustainable development. Young people between 15 and 25 from all over the world are invited to submit photos and a short story to explain their vision of how food affects our future.

Participants will have the opportunity to share photos in three different categories: how food affects the environment, society or the economy. For example, the production of food puts various strains on the environment, including water shortages, deforestation, loss of biodiversity and pollution. From an economic point of view, soaring food prices in recent years have posed additional threats to food security and nutrition. Currently, there are still 870 million people who do not have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food. Last but not least, food plays a central role in family, social and religious life, shaping people’s identity and culture.

The six talented finalists, one per continent, will win an all-expenses paid trip to Brussels to attend European Development Days on 3-4 June 2015. Their photos will be displayed during the forum and they will have the opportunity to meet global leaders in development. The finalists will be determined by a jury who will choose from the 30 photos attracting the highest number of votes on Facebook.

The final deadline for submissions is 10 April and finalists will be announced on 22nd April 2015.

Don’t wait! Submit your photos now!

Get involved: Submit proposals for sessions and stands at EDD15

The submission forms for this year’s edition are available online! A Community Guide is available to help you get started. The pre-defined topics for this year’s forum are mentioned in the tentative Agenda Overview.

As you may know, EDD15 is a participatory forum. Everyone is given a voice in this open, collaborative and inclusive platform. Each year, the global development community is invited to contribute directly to EDD by proposing activities and sessions to be included in the official programme in order to share its views and experiences.

At EDD15, we rely on committed development actors to develop thought-provoking proposals whether they wish to organise a debate, share knowledge through projects and reports or solve challenges that arise in any given policy area or field practice.

In order to submit a session proposal, you need to create an account here. Once logged-in, you will be able to access and complete the relevant submission forms below:

              - We debate (auditorium or lab panels)

              - We share (stand and lab or lab only on project and reports)

              - We solve (brainstorming session on issue-related challenge or project-related challenge)

The final deadline for submissions is Monday 2 March 2015. Selected sessions will be announced on 23 March 2015.

Under the motto of the European Year for Development 2015 - ‘Our world, our dignity, our future’, EDD shows Europe’s commitment to the eradication of global poverty. The forum builds on a core belief: cooperation is the cornerstone of a fairer world. An essential aim is thus to facilitate networking and inspire the desire to work together even more closely in a spirit of true partnership. EDD is an incubator of new ideas to inform our shared aim of a poverty-free, sustainable and fair world where everyone has a chance at a decent life.

Future Leaders Programme – Apply now

EDD15 is proud to launch its Future Leaders Programme for youth aged 21 to 26. Today, 50% of the world population is under 27, which is why EDD is giving youth a central role in the debates that will shape the solutions to global challenges.

Young people actively contribute to the fight against poverty on a daily basis through their research or endeavours as business or civil society leaders. They often make a difference in their own communities. The European Commission wants to recognise this contribution and put their achievements in the spotlight; helping to give them a role in shaping the development policies that will affect them and their future. This generation has the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit to build a better future. They are Future Leaders.

Young people from around the world ages 21-26 are invited to apply to come and speak at Europe’s largest development forum and help shape our future. The 12 selected Future Leaders will speak in high-level panels about their projects and experiences and engage with today’s political and civil society leaders. Their travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the European Commission.

Apply now and visit the Future Leaders page to know more about the programme.
