Improving governance for responsible business

Improving governance for responsible business

Stakeholder lab on recommendations for policy, civil society and the private sector

Wednesday, June 7, 2017 - 14:00 to 15:15
Business has become an important partner for driving sustainable development, especially in the Global South. Multistakeholder initiatives, for example Fairtrade and RSPO, have provided important platforms for engaging the private sector. They have enabled progress but are not necessarily the only or best way to leverage the private sector for solving development challenges. Based on concrete case studies from the gold, tea and garment sectors of Tanzania and Bangladesh, we invite the EDD community to discuss in a World Café format new ideas and recommendations for improving governance for responsible business conduct. The session will inform policy recommendations developed as part of the EU’s largest research project on the contribution of multinational corporations to date (www.global-value.eu).
