EDD 2017 Young Leaders - Odessa Primus

“No matter what time or society we live in, people look at each other and see gender and age, colour and class. I've found that what I can do is think "I am not a woman in this situation, I am not young person, I am simply a person, a citizen, and that is the only criteria I should be judged on. Becoming a Young Leader for the EDD enabled me to be in the same room with incredible people who have accomplished great things. However it was up to me to engage them. That's what makes a young leader, their ability to make people listen, and to lead.”

EDD 2017 Young Leaders - Chinenye Ezeakor

“Women are a driving force to the economic recovery and stability of every nation, most especially with the right education, support and encouragement. The EDD Young Leaders Programme recognises this, and has supported me with a platform for sharing my stories, experience, and breakthrough for women empowerment through Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).”

EDD 2016 Young Leaders - Vandinika Shukla

"Empowering young women to be bold and fearless in assuming leadership will transform the fabric of our society; because those young women represent 3.5 billion opportunities for change. The EDD gave me a chance to take this message directly to global leaders and provide interventions on how policy decisions for the SDGs can be more inclusive and innovative. I am determined to influence long-lasting change for young women's participation in leadership and decision-making. I'm excited that my work at UN Women helps me bring together different actors in pushing for UN-system wide and government accountability for gender equality and the SDGs.”

EDD 2015 Young Leaders - Marion Osieyo

“Joining the EDDs' Young Leaders Programme made me realise that I am more courageous than I initially thought. It gave me and my fellow Young Leaders the same platform as key decision-makers in the sector, and made us feel comfortable about sharing our ideas. I encourage all young people around the world, especially women, to grab that hidden courage and raise their voices: we need to be heard.”

Marion Osieyo, EDD Young Leaders, 2015.

This platform is primarily initiated and driven by Young Leaders themselves with the aim of creating interactive discussions, stimulating critical thought, and presenting innovative ideas, as well as a documentation of progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Young Leaders from different editions contribute with interesting content, written or otherwise, highlighting their projects and initiatives, their views on the implementation of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, or their experiences at EDD. Contributions are mostly from young leaders; however, additional and relevant contributions from other young individuals and prominent leaders amongst these networks are also welcomed. Content focuses on (but is not limited to) any of the 17 SDGs.
